Friday I'm In Love

Short post today. I've been really sick the last two days vomiting :( I haven't vomited since I was a kid, so it was scary. I don't get sick often, I haven't even had a cold/flu for a year. I'm much better today, I'm at work but still sore and weak.

Subhumans 2012

Here is what I wore to the Subhumans gig two weeks ago. I couldn't find my camera stand, so sorry about 'full body' shots.
I was probaly the only punkrock/goth girl there. Perth is sadly lacking cute punk girls, there were lots of yucky dirty boys though.
The gig was great, I'm not a follower of the Subhumans music but I knew that they're an influencial punk band from the 80s. I'm pretty certain it was their first time in Perth, and I really enjoyed their music

Keep or Sell?

A little while ago I won an ebay auction for a pair of vintage winklepicker Dr. Martens. They cost a pretty penny, but when I saw them I knew I had to have them. They were my size!

I little while ago I got contacted, on ebay, by a German fellow asking if he could buy the shoes off me. He's willing to pay more than I bought them for, plus shipping.

I'm at a loss what to do. Do I tell him to bugger off? Or do I sell him the shoes?

I love the shoes, these are my thoughts:
  • I'm worried they might wear out quickly.
  • I have to wear them in (blisters, ouch) but this is a problem with all Dr. Martens.
  • I can't zip them up all the way, BUT I can buckle all of the buckles. So wearing them with the zips down isn't a problem.
  • If I sell the shoes, I'll have money. But I CAN afford these shoes, I'm not poor.
  • They're vintage and in my size. I've never seen Dr. Martens like these before
What do you think I should do?

Ignore fat leg and messy floor.

UPDATE: Thanks everyone for your comments. I've decided to keep the shoes!

Scaredy Cat

Yesterday I was invited along to the Morley Rollerdrome with some friends.

Grinning like a fool, I wore:
Cardigan: Target
Dress: Target
Leggings: Target
Boots: Op Shop

I chickened out! I put on the skates, but I felt so uncomfortable that I took them off again. I just couldn't do it. I used to love skating when I was younger.
They offer beginner lessons at the rink, do you think I should take some?
I'm not interested in joining Roller Derby, I just remembered that I loved skating when I was little. I think I got scared because it's such a long way to the ground because I'm so tall.

Wax Seals

I'm part of a Goth/Alternative letter writing group called The Inkwell. I love writing letters, I love stationary and pens and stickers. I've been looking around for some nice wax seals for a while, and I finally found some great ones at Seasons Creations.

I wanted some plain spooky seals, like a bat or something. Anything on ebay was overpriced. I was even thinking about getting something custom made.

Seasons Creations offers a wide range of wax seal stamps and sealing wax. I was instantly drawn to the spooky ones, and I bought a bat, spider and a spiderweb. I also bought a few wax sticks.

The price was very fair, and shipping to Australia was cheap. I even got refunded around $2 because I got over quoted for postage. I think that's brilliant! I've never really seen a business that would go to the trouble of refunding such a low amount.

My package came in a plain padded envelope, but there was a seal on the back of a pretty tree!

Everything inside was packaged nicely in little boxes, here are my seals:

Sealing wax.

The tested seals look brilliant!

I recommend Seasons Creations, they were great! My penpals will have to lookout for my letters, I can't wait to use the seals.

Pennangalan Dawn Winklepicker Boots Review

A long time ago when I was a baby bat I would WISH for Pennangalan winklepicker boots. I didn't think that I would ever make enough money, or own a credit card.

Luckily Pennagalan boots aren't expensive and they take Paypal. It cost me under $100 AUD for these boots, including postage.

When I took out my Dawn winklepickers I loved how shiney they were. I chose the black patent leather, but there are many options available including black leather, synthetic leather, purple glitter, white patent leather, pink patent leather. SO MANY OPTIONS!

Dawn winklepickers are pointy, I can't wait to get these on and stare at my toes all day. The zip was a bit stiff, but I put some wax along it. I ordered a size up, as the website suggests. I'm a size 10 mens, so I ordered a size 11 mens. They fit perfect! They even zipped all the way up, which is a surprise considering my fat ankles.

There are also different versions with bat, coffin, pentagram or western buckles.

The customer service was great. I basically put through my order, and waited for my shoes to be made. The website warns that shoes might not be in stock and they have to wait for certain items. I think it took around a month for me to get my shoes, which I didn't mind.
I got an email from a representative, and I asked him about my shoe sizing. He was very helpful. After my shoes were made I got invoiced via PayPal, which I paid straight away.

I don't know why they make winklepicker soles smooth! I had to take them to a cobbler, and it's costing me an extra $65 AUD to get soles put on.

Overall, these are brilliant boots. I'll definitely be buying from Pennangalan again. I'll probably get some bat buckles next time. The quality is good, and so is the price.
The only con, for me, would be the long waiting time and having to pay extra to get soles at my cobbler.
