At The Derby

On Saturday the 21st of May, me and my friend (Nikki) went to the Perth Roller Derby: Quads Of War.

I've always wanted to watch a derby match, the Perth teams were created last year while I was in the UK. I'm not the type of person who likes sports, but the derby was so much fun! The rules were easy to understand, and it was great fun to watch.

Here is Nikki watching the roller girls.

And here is what I wore:
Scarf: Somewhere in Perth
Zombie shirt: Manchester, UK
Jacket: Evans
Skirt: Target
Tights: Evans
Shoes: Dr. Marten's

Sorry about the face I'm pulling :P

Here is the back of my jacket, which I customised myself. My favourite band is Bauhaus. I've collected a lot of badges and patches for my jacket.

Coming soon: Next up will be some makeup from a recent birthday party

P.S. The rapture was supposed to happen on the 21st, and it didn't. I'm an atheist, so it wouldn't matter anyway ^_^

Wednesday Wants- Kambriel edition

Ever since I was a little Babybat, I've loved Kambriel clothing. I've always looked at the webpage and wished I could own just ONE item of awesome traditional goth clothing.
I can imagine laying around in Graveyards, with my hair teased big and wearing pointy boots. Well, it's not far from what I do now. But I still wish I had enough money to buy such nice clothing.

Midnight Bustle, Kambriel. $800usd depending on size. This jacket and skirt set is so amazing, even the model looks like she's wandering on the moors. I love the effect of the tulle at the bustle, and I want the hat to go with the outfit too.

Theda Skirt and Blouse, Kambriel. Prices depending on size. This is probably the first outfit I wanted from Kambriel. I first found the designer from Gothic Beauty magazine, which I buy every time it comes out. I'm sure this outfit is based on Theda Bara, who happens to be one of my Goth idols.

The Spider Queen shawl, Kambriel. $75usd. This is so pretty, I remember seeing it in a recent(ish) issue of Gothic Beauty magazine. I think I will buy this when I have enough money.

All this clothing reminds me of the March Violets. Who happen to have a new video/song out, which I love. Called Dandelion King:

Gary Numan: Live in Perth

On 17th of May I went to see Gary Numan at the Astor Theatre Perth.
One of my good friends in New York has seen him a few times and recommended that I go. Perth rarely gets any good musicians coming to it, mainly because we're so isolated. It's even harder to get Goth/Alternative acts here.

The night started rainy, so I had to carry around my umbrella with me. But, I luckily didn't get wet. I wore my Lip Service lace dress, with those horrible Moda tights. Sadly didn't get a full shot of me, but here is my pretty head:

Luckily I really like the Astor theatre (apart from making my bum go numb from sitting too long). I saw Steve Severin there once (of Siouxsie and the Banshees fame). Me and my friend got seats in the middle back row, the tickets didn't have specific seating so it was first come first served.

I can't remember who did the support act. The first was a DJ, just playing some tunes. Then it was a crappy singer/comedian. It was agony, and it lasted too long.

Anyway, once Gary Numan came on everything was alright. I'm not sure if it's the same as you, but when I see my idols live it seems I'm dreaming. Then I can't really remember the show afterwards. I know Numan played songs from his Pleasure Principal album, which I enjoy. I really suck at reviewing music :(

His singing voice is still great, and he puts on a good show. The Perth crowd took a little time to get into the music, but by the end everyone was singing and yelling.

Overall, I loved seeing Gary Numan. I don't think he can go wrong, and he's still going strong after all these years.

Target Moda Review- Overpriced and Poor Quality

Yep, you read the title right. Moda clothing at Target is overpriced and poor quality. At least from what I have observed.

I don't like having to do a bad review, but Moda really pisses me off. When I pay $30 for clothing I expect it to be good. Especially when it's so hard to find plus sized clothing and sometimes the only option is Kmart, Big W, or Target.

I got some Moda tights not too long ago, I wore them to the Gary Numan concert. I bought the biggest size, size X2 which would fit me according to the size chart.

I pull them on, they fit around my lower legs fine, but not my thieghts. Well, it's a squeeze to get into the theigh bit. Then for some reason, the waistband is fine it might even be too loose.
I think 'oh, doesn't matter. It's only a bit tight, I'm sure it'll be alright for a few hours'
WRONG!!!
Walking to the train station, my tights are falling down. I hate this, why the hell are they falling down. I'm used to a good pair of tights sitting on my hips, like a pair of Evans tights.

When I get into Perth I have to duck into the drug toilet (lit with blue light so they can't see their veins) so I can pull up my tights again.

And again when I get to the Astor theatre for Gary Numan.
And again after the concert. Then I realise the tights have been rubbing my knuckles as I've been pulling them up and I have two nice friction sores. Mmm, bloody.

I keep having to just hold onto my tights so they don't fall down, and it's not helping much. When I'm walking home I think 'screw it' and just let them go to see what happens. Within two steps they're around my ankles. But luckily it's 11pm and raining so there are no cars to see my lilly white legs.

My friend said I should have done the Superman (putting a pair of knickers over the tights) but I shouldn't have to do that. I am very disappointed in the tights, and will now stick to Evans tights (which are sadly seasonal)

I've had some other run ins with crappy Moda products. In January 2010 I bought two skirts with my xmas gift card. They didn't last one wearing.
I put one on to wear to a bbq, and by the end of the day the seams were unraveling.
It wasn't a factor of the skirts being too small, they were the correct size and I didn't feel they were tight. This happened with the second skirt too.

The one last point I have against Moda is the price (and most the clothes are very ugly, and don't flatter anyone). The two skirts I got used up all my gift card (I could have got something better). I have cardigans from Moda, and it is VERY overpriced. I had to save up $40 for one. I don't generally spend this much but the cardigan was a style that's not available anywhere else. Also, it's plus sized and once the clothes are gone, then they're gone.

I recommend buying tights from Evans. I have also heard good things about We Love Colors, which I will review once I get enough money to buy a pair.

Wednesday Wants

The Gary Numan concert was great!! I will do a future Wednesday Wants on new wave style clothes. I'm feeling a bit lazy at the moment.
Also, sorry some of the pictures are small. I couldn't figure out how to get a good capture without having to edit it.

Inspire Ladder Knit Tunic, £16.99. New Look clothing. It's finally getting cold here in Perth. The evenings are nice and chilly, and I actually wore my cardigan the other day. I can imagine wearing this with a long sleeved black top and either skirt or pants. I don't wear pants often, so it's a bit strange thinking about it.

Gothic Lolita double frill skirt, £89. Dracinabox clothing. I need a fluffy twirly skirt, and I'm too damn lazy to make one.

Haunted Windows Gothic Pyjamas, £69. Dracinabox clothing. Whenever I go into Big W, Kmart, or Target I have a look at the pyjamas. Hoping to find a pair of black or gothy PJ bottoms. No such luck yet, and this pair is way too expensive. But the Robert Smith model is cute!

Ruffle Edge Longline Cardi, $69.95. City Chic. WHY DOES IT HAVE TO BE SO EXPENSIVE!?!? WHYYYYYY???

Friday 13th Shopping!

On Friday I went to Fremantle with my friend Dani. I got a new pair of sunglasses, and some tights and knickers from Target.

I'll review the tights and knickers when I wear them. I was surprised to find plus sized tights at Target. I'm not a fan of the Target Moda brand, as two skirts I bought from them broke with only one wearing.

More posts next week!

Wednesday Wants

I apoligize. I was suppose to write a post about a recent concert I went to at Easter, but I've been very preoccupied.
Well, the next two weeks will be busy so I'll be able to post a few items of clothing. I've got Gary Numan next wednesday, then the Perth roller derby bout. And finally going to Club Unknown.

So, here are my wants for the week:

Trashville platform boots, from Demonia. Unknown price, seeing as they don't list them on their website. I've been wanting a pair of these forever. They'd be really comfy and awesome for when I want to dress up more industrial goth. I'm tall, but these would make me really tall! And I love the look of PVC items.

Bogart - 6 Plain Buckle Boots, Underground Shoes. £86 EXPENSIVE!!! That is the only reason I haven't bought these yet. It would cost something like $200 to get them, and I could buy two pairs of Demonia boots for that much. But I love goth winklepickers! I've wanted a pair every since seeing the Craft (I know, I know -_-;)

Man Military Gothic Thick Wool Double Breasted Mid-Calf Coat, fanplusfriend. $175usd. Elegent Gothic Lolita is beautfil. Their clothing is very victorian, yet modern. Most suppliers only cater to smaller sizes, probaly because Japanese girls and guys tend to be small and tiny. Luckily, this website does custom sizes! Very cool. I can imagine an awesome uniform related outfit. Too bad it would be too hot to wear in Australia :(

Black Floral Detail Stretch Belt, Yours Clothing. £10. When I get enough money I'm going to buy at least 10 different waist belts. They go with everything and create a nice hourglass figure.

Zombie Chomper Handbag, Ironfist. $65aud. I am not a handbag type of girl. I usually make my own bags, usually messenger bags so I can have my hands free. But if I was a handbag girl, I would buy this. I am thinking about buying it, just so I can get used to a handbag on my arm. For some odd reason I just don't suit them.

Wednesday Wants

I've been a bit sad lately. I'm between jobs, and I don't have enough money to buy anything. I feel like I'm mooching too much off my friends, but I hope they realise I will pay them back once I get another job.
Wednesday Wants helps me look forwards to a day where I might have enough money to buy a new item of clothing.

I've been feeling a bit girly recently, so these items will reflect that.
First is a blouse and skirt I would love to see together, it would look so romantic.

ASOS CURVE Exclusive Chiffon Sleeve Wrap Top, £25. I look the sleeves on this thing. I'm not a big fan of sheer material, but I think I could get over it. I can imagine it with a nice necklace. Oh, how I want this and the skirt together!

ASOS CURVE Printed Midi Skirt, £30. So, so pretty. I've always wanted a black and white striped skirt. I'm so glad that midi skirts are in fashion, they suit me much better than maxi skirts. I really would love to have these both together, along with a nice pair of boots.

Praslin crochet detail tunic top, Evans £32. I am so in love with Peter Pan collars, and this one had cute white lace. I really love the ruffle at the bottom too.

MAC Cosmetics Lipstick, Cyber $36.00usd. I've been wanting this lipstick for ages, it's very Goth. Dark plum/black, I've seen it on a few girls and it looks great. So I might have to save up, even though I have about 7 different lipsticks.

Candy Eyed Eyeshadow Helper eyelid primer, Lime Crime $17usd. I have been wanting a good primer to use for my crappy eyeshadow. I don't usually have a problem with my black eyeshadow, but if I wanted to use a different eyeshadow I don't want it sliding around on my face.

Mods vs. Rockers @ Club Unknown

Last weekend at Club Unknown they held a Mods vs. Rockers night. Only playing 50s and 60s music, which DJ Xymox has heaps of experiance in.
I had no idea what to wear, but I luckily remembered my red dress that I got in the UK. I bought it from Ebay UK, it was about $15aud.
The one thing I was worried about was my hair, because I usually just backcomb it like Robert Smith. Luckily, my best friends girlfriend is a rockabilly type and she did my hair for me. It turned out really nice.

Dress: Evans
Cardigan: Moda (Target)
Belt: Evans
Tights: Evans
Boots: Underground Shoes
Hair flower and skull cardigan clips: Borrowed from my friends girlfriend

I saw myself once my hair was done. I was like "OMG, I look like a girl!" The whole outfit was very femme, and it's such a surprise for me to see myself looking girly and pretty.

Cute skull cardigan clips. I also got to borrow earrings with the same skull design.

You can see the earrings here, along with hair, flowers, and fake eyelashes!

I had such a great night, the music was brilliant and DJ Xymox played my Happy Together by the Turtles. Here is some more photos of me at the club. And me dancing, with my dance face on.

DIY Badges

If, like me, you enjoy listening to obscure music you will find it hard to find cheap band merchandise. So, I always try to make my own. Badges are really easy to customise, and I'll show you how. You get to put any image you want on the badge, and it's a unique craft that no one else will have.

Items you need:
- Badges you no longer want. Can be old badges from a band you don't like, or buy a pack of crappy ones from a local $2 store. I got a pack of crappy Twilight related badges from the $2 Store. I'm planning on making a bunch of different badges. Also, I really dislike Twilight.
- Mod Podge. You can get this from a craft store. In Australia I got mine at Spotlight. It's used to stick, and seal items.
- Image you want on badge. Print one out from your computer. I usually measure the badge, then create a template in a art program then edit the image I want to it fits. Or you can just wing it and get any small image and cut it out.
- Obvious things like scissors and a paint brush. You should have these laying around like I do.

Step One: Cut out the image you want and make sure it fits badge. I have a bunch of Robert Smith images, so I cut out one to use as a badge.

Step Two: Take your paintbrush and Mod Podge. Use a little Mod Podge on the surface of the badge and stick the image to it. If you don't know how to glue an item to another item, then you're an idiot. Also paint a layer of Mod Podge over the top of the image. Make sure there is no wrinkles. Leave the badge somewhere to dry.

Step Three: Once dry, do another coat of Mod Podge over the badge. Make sure edges are glued down properly. Leave to dry again.

Now you have your very own awesome badge. This is seriously the most easiest craft project ever. Low cost, with a unique item at the end. So far I've made a Bauhaus, and David Bowie badge. I was planning on making a YouTube tutorial for this too, but it'll have to wait.
Go forth and craft!
