I Hate Summer

It's going to be 40 degrees Celsius (104 Fahrenheit) all week :(
I need to swap lives with one of my readers in the Northern Hemisphere. Any takers?

It was 40 degrees on Christmas and Boxing Day too. I spend Christmas and Boxing day at my parents place (in the air conditioner, doing cross stitch). I stayed the night at my Grans, I think she enjoyed having me over :)
My sister got me a brilliant quill and ink pot for my present (I got her a dashboard zombie for her car). My dad and stepmum got me the new Assassin's Creed game which I asked for (I sewed dad a Dalek cross-stitch and my stepmum a frog oil burner).

Leading Up

I'm now on my xmas holiday from work. We get a week off and return on the 2nd of January. I don't have any plans, but I'm getting a new video game for christmas so I'll be playing that. I did my christmas shopping online this year, so I'm all set. I'm spending christmas and boxing day with my parents, wish me luck!! (I'm bringing a cross-stitch so I won't get too bored)
It's going to be 40 degrees celsius on christmas. Kill me now.
I worked Saturday and Sunday at the Rooftop Movies. They were showing christmas films.

I did popcorn duty at the movies, then went downstairs to DJ and dance at The Loft. The movies are on the carpark next to The Loft, very convenient. I hope that I didn't scare too many people with my look at the movies! There were a lot of children!!!

Sadly there was technical difficulties and the movie was cancelled! :(

Friday I'm In Love

I recently found a great blog, Systems of Romance, which offers free obscure music. It offers lots of Coldwave, Post-Punk and Synth. I've found a lot of great stuff, and finally found some Siglo XX (now if I could only get the rest of it)

There's A Goth In The Library!

Once I finished high school I went straight into college for two years. I completed a Diploma of Library and Information Services which qualifies me as a Library Technician. It's usually easier for me to tell people that I'm a Librarian, although technically I'm not. A Library Technician is a step lower than a Librarian, in many places we do the same work but we get paid less. For me to be a Librarian I would need to attend University, but I'm not willing to get into debt. Right now I'm very comfortable with my Library Technician role.

I was always a little worried that with my appearance I wouldn't be able to find work. But every person has a perfect workplace. From completing my Diploma I worked in a high school library, which had a feminist Librarian. She was really cool with how I looked. I'm a good worker, and I've never been disrespectful to people.

Libraries are supposed to be places of open minds, and it can be surprising the amount of old mean ladies that can inhabit such places. If a coworker didn't approve of my look I didn't care. My clothes were always neat and tidy, never against the dress code. Don't let people bully you. If your work conduct is perfect then they have no right to tell you how to live. There are lots of bitter people out there with nothing better to do than be mean. Their lives are so horrible that they take it out on other people, which is unfair. Just remember that you have done nothing wrong, if a coworker bully's you make sure to tell your manager!

You may need to tone down to get a job. This is what EVERYBODY does, that's why it's strange seeing someone outside of work because they look so different. I don't wear my usual Trad Goth clothes to work. Big hair and tight skirts are a bit uncomfortable for wearing all day.
Black is corporate, I'm always glad for that fact. I think I'd scream if pink was the corporate colour. Wear black pants or a skirt. Wear a black blouse, or maybe jewel tones if you don't mind colour.

I've never taken out piercings for my work. At my interview I change my piercing jewelry to clear retainers, but once I knew I had the job I didn't hide anything. I even got new piercings. I did dye my hair black for the job, but that was because I was bored of the previous colour. I quickly shaved and dyed my hair again! :)

Keep your makeup simple. I wear foundations and eyeliner/shadow. I started off with plain eyeliner, now I wear dark cats-eye makeup each day. I can't be bothered with lipstick, as it rubs off during the day. Do what feels appropriate for the situation.

Each workplace is different, you have to look around to see how far you can go. My current job is at a university library, a coworker of mine used to dye his hair. That tells me that my workplace is cool with hair colour, so I decided to colour mine.
Take it a little bit at a time, and soon enough you'll feel comfortable in your workplace while keeping your gothic personality.

Sadly, some workplaces are very strict. You have to decide if the workplace is right for you. Do you have to take out your piercings? No jewelery? Does your style stop you from climbing the job ladder?
It is possible to survive in a strict corporate workplace. There are lots of secret goths. You may have to bite the bullet and wear colour to work, bringing out your black wardrobe for the weekend.

Personally, I wear lots of black to work. Dresses, t-shirts, skirts. I'm casual, yet I don't look sloppy. I've sneaked in lots of different band t-shirts, usually on a Friday. I wear my Dr. Martens to work, because they're so comfy!
I'm very lucky to have great coworkers who know that I'm a big softy even though I look really scary. They always have a laugh when students stare at me :)
I think my work really appreciates me and my style. It's always something to talk about (even if it's about my hair needing to be dyed again)
Your style may be different from mine, try to pick a few key things. Do you enjoy lace and frills or something harder?

I hope that you have the same luck that I have. My qualifications and experience talk much more loudly than my gothic wardrobe.

Incursion PLUS Extra News

This past weekend was a busy one for me! The club night Incursion finally happened, it went really well! Incursion was a costume party with a military theme, everyone looked great.

I have an online friend, Lana, who flew over with her boyfriend to attend and DJ at Incursion. It was a birthday present for her boyfriend, but they've also never been to Perth. I took the day off Friday to show them around a bit, I took them to Fremantle which I hoped they liked.
On Saturday, we all helped set up the club. Putting up posters and making sure everything looked nice.

Here's what I looked like on Saturday night for Incursion!

I don't really own anything military themed. I had this military shirt laying around, it had gold buttons so I painted with nailpolish to make them black.
Top: New Look
Corset: Minx Corsetry
Skirt: Yours Clothing
Winklepicker boots: Demonia

Here's what my Sydney friend Lana wore! She looked very nice, and spend a lot of time on her costume.
She had a lot of Nazi imagery, but I hope my readers can understand that she's not a Nazi and it was just a costume.

There was ANNOYING DRAMA caused by people taking offence at some Nazi costumes. The people who complained are known trolls/people who cause trouble. They singled out one of my friends and have started bullying her online. THIS IS NOT OKAY. I have a lot to say about this subject, but I really don't want to write on my blog about that.

Here we are together in a very blurry photo :)

My best friend Merissa DJing.

Me and my friend Jane. She looked so CUTE!!

I hope that my Sydney friend, Lana, enjoyed her stay. I loved meeting her and showing her around Perth. She is really generous and kind, and I can't wait to see her again.

EXTRA NEWS:
My best friend has left Perth :(
Merissa has been planning to move over to the UK for a few months now. Tuesday morning she was flying out, so on Monday night a few of us stayed up all night to be with her. We took her to the airport and said goodbye to her. I cried!! :(
I'm going to miss her so much! I don't know what I'll do without her :(

American Mary @ Luna Cinemas

Last Thursday I was lucky enough to see a new horror film. American Mary was directed by two Canadian twin sisters Sylvia and Jen Soska (The Soska Sisters). They came to Australia to meet us and show us the film! I was so excited to meet them!
The movie was held at Luna Cinemas in Leederville. I attended the movie by myself, but was surprised to find my friends Holly and Nikki there.

American Mary follows Mary Mason (Katharine Isabelle from Ginger Snaps) as she struggles in her life. She's studying to be a surgeon at medical school, but she has money troubles. After losing another job, she tries to find a job as a go-go bar but instead is asked to use her surgery skills. Her skills drop her into the world of extreme body modification. A horrible situation sends her spiraling into madness, while her enjoyment for unnecessary surgery grows.

I think this film is the best I've seen all year. If you enjoy horror, I recommend this 100%. I wasn't grossed out at all during the film, and there were no "cat in a box" type scares. I love the use of real effects over CGI. A female driven movie is a wonderful thing, and the Soska sisters are young masters. I can't wait to see what they come up with next!
Everything about the film was beautiful, and it stuck around in my head for a while. Go and see this film if you can!!

They were so sweet and cute!!

Q&A session after the film. I asked about alternative endings for the film.

 Such nice outfits!

I got this signed!!

Holly with the sisters

Nikki with the sisters

Me again, because I loved them so much. I wanted to take them home and be friends with them forever! Such lovely girls.

Bridgetown

On Monday and Tuesday (12th and 13th November) I traveled to Bridgetown with my best friend Merissa. Bridgetown is around three/four hours south of Perth. We stayed at a farm belonging to a family who Merissa has been visiting ever since she was little. It backs onto state forrest, and it's a very pretty stop. Seeing as Merissa is leaving in December (lame) she decided we should go to Bridgetown because she's been promising to take me for ages.

I was so excited to go, which surprised me because I haven't been excited about something in a very long time. I had heaps of fun, I love the Australian countryside. Especially down south where it's cooler. If you go north of Perth it's hot and icky.

LOTS OF PHOTOS AFTER THE BREAK!

Birthday 2012

Last Saturday was my birthday. I'm not a big fan of my birthday, I always feel really sad and lonely. This birthday was no different. I find it strange that I can feel so alone even when I'm around people.

In the afternoon I got to hang out with Merissa, she bought me a bunch of flowers and a Hammer Horror book. This was my first bunch of flowers I've ever received!

My cards and my flowers. My sister got me a card with a bat on it!

Snugglepot and Cuddlepie was from my sister. And Hammer Horror from Merissa.

Merissa also got me two yummy cupcakes!!
Me and Merissa watched a movie together, it was great spending my birthday with her.

The next day Haze, Kylie and Nikki took me on a secret adventure. I had no idea where we were going. We went to The Maze, which is a attraction that has a few mazes, picnic area and animals! I really enjoyed myself.

We saw some Koalas before having a bbq.

Only in Australia.

At the entrance to a maze. New denim vest that I decorated myself.

Which way?!

I found a friend!

After getting lost in the maze we went to see the kangaroos!

There were a few Joeys (young kangaroos) jumping around :)

Here is a Joey inside his mums pouch. I love how his legs stick out! Haha. It's even funnier to see a big Joey try to get into his mums pouch.

Hahahaha!
