Peter Murphy @ The Bakery

The first stop on Peter Murphy's 2013 Australian tour was Perth! How lucky were we?
Peter or Bauhaus have never been to Australia before. I hope he enjoyed staying in Perth, and it was a real honour to see him. He's such a big idol of mine.

I certainly enjoyed his show a lot. I arrived pretty early, like I usually do for shows. There wasn't really any line at all. I was one of the first people into the venue. I bought a Peter Murphy shirt with an octopus on it, and staked out the front of the stage.
Funnily enough, the same cute girl from Adam Ant was also at the Peter Murphy concert. I bet she's super annoyed with me now, because I always seem to get a souvenir from gigs. Sorry cute girl!!!

The Bakery is an okay venue. It's run by Artrage, who also run the Rooftop Movies. The venue is large, and the stage is set pretty low (compared to the Astor).
The crowd consisted of a lot of goths. I didn't really get a good view of how many people there were, because I was at the front.

The supporting band was Fear of Comedy, who are a Perth band. My friend is a guitarist in the band. I've seen them a few times. I enjoyed some of their first songs, but some of their music seems to be a bit screamy and metal which I'm not a fan of. The lead singer has a great voice though! I'm sure they were very happy to support Peter.

Right, onto the main act.
Peter Murphy came on stage and I was instantly smitten. He's still a very handsome man and has all of the moves. He played many of his solo songs, and a few Bauhaus. I would have loved a full Bauhaus set, but I enjoyed his show. Some Bauhaus songs off the top of my head were Stigmata Martyr, Kick In The Eye, She's In Parties. No 'Bela Lugosi's Dead', just a chorus of it.

He was full of energy, seeing him jumping around and dancing gave me an insight to how it would be at one of his original concerts. I wish I could have seen him in the Bauhaus days!
The concert was very good. The band were very dedicated (also handsome). It got really hot in the venue, and you could see shirts of the band getting slowly wet with sweat.

Peter Murphy was very audience interactive. He was touching people, he even covered my eyes. The best part was probably when he dragged a girl forward and sung into her ear.

I was so, so close to him it was crazy. The stage set up meant that when he came to stand at the front of the stage my head was literally in his crotch area. I had to turn my head so it wouldn't go into his wang area :P That being said, I got a really good view! Haha!! Seeing as he was sweaty, I also got sweated on a bit (I'm never going to shower again!!! Haha). He has lovely blue eyes, by the way.
Near to the end of the concert I took the courage and hugged his legs hard. I also had a cheeky grope of his bum ;)

I scored a guitar pick and set list.

If you have the chance to see Peter Murphy, either on his Australia tour or elsewhere, I highly recommend him. His voice is still brilliant and his performance was everything I wanted it to be.
To recap: Peter Murphy= very attractive and brilliant show

Now I need to tick off Siouxise Sioux and David Bowie *crosses fingers* (Note to Siouxsie and Bowie: you need to come to Perth so I can grope your bums)

Lots of photos after the jump:

Friday I'm In Love

Short post today. I've been really sick the last two days vomiting :( I haven't vomited since I was a kid, so it was scary. I don't get sick often, I haven't even had a cold/flu for a year. I'm much better today, I'm at work but still sore and weak.

Totally Gawth, no? The lyrics "dead bodies, dead bodies!" kinda makes me laugh.

Punk Rock Girl

Last night I went to Descent, which is an old school goth night in Perth. It's a fairly new night, this being the second time it's run. It's great to be able to listen to awesome music. I decided to put up my hawk, seeing as I had to wash my hair afterwards anyway.

I enjoyed myself, I danced a bit and got home at midnight.

A Week Behind

I had a pretty busy weekend, last weekend. Yes, I'm a week behind in my blogging. What can I say? I'm lazy :P

On Satuday 23rd I went to see A Royal Affair with my friend Merissa. The film is about the Danish royal family in the 18th Century. I love historical movies, and Merissa and me always go to see them together. The cinema was packed with what Merissa calls the 'Blue Rinse Brigade', all the old ladies going to see the film. Me and Merissa were the youngest there :P
The film was great! Costumes and settings were lovely. I would totally go and watch it again.

I wore:
Sisters of Mercy Shirt: Ebay
Skirt: Big W
Tights: Kmart
Winklepickers: Demonia (the heel fell off, again! I might write and angry letter to demonia)
Cotton biker jacket: Ebay (studded by myself!)

Later that night I went to a 'reunion' type of night that was for all the older alternative types to get together. That didn't stop me going! I was a bit over-dressed though, but I guess it's better to be over-dressed intead of under-dressed.
A irish guy complemented me on my hawk. He then asked me what type of music I'd like to have played, I quickly searched my brain for a really obsure goth band :P
"definatly Danse Society" I said, sipping my lemonade.

Check out my cute bat hairclip. I got it from etsy!

Please excuse creepy glowing eyes.

Specimen shirt: From their gig I saw in London 2010
Corset: ebay
Epic belt: ebay
Skirt: Yours Clothing
Winklepickers: Demonia

The next day I walked to a retro/vintage market that was being held in the next suburb. I underestimated how long it would take to walk there, so it took an hour both ways. Well, at least I like walking! :P
I bought two records, Bowie and Adam Ant. I'm trying to start to collect records, I've always loved records but I've never been in the position to buy any. Sadly all of my favourite bands are really hard to find, I'm not going to find a Red Lorry Yellow Lorry album easily!! I think that's where the internet comes in. If you have old goth records you don't want, give me a yell. I'll buy some! :)

On Sunday evening I headed off to The Loft. It was their 2nd birthday celebration, sadly I didn't get to DJ :(
I left my hawk up from the night before, too much effort to wash it out and put it back up again.

I wore a super cute dress that I got at City Chic on sale. The dress is really ugly and square on the hanger, but it looks curvy and brilliant when I wear it.
I had to wear my other demonia winklepickers because my favourite ones broke again :(

Again, sorry for any spelling mistakes. Spell check isn't working again, damn Blogger.

Sad news, I won't be able to DJ for a while. The Loft isn't running weekly, and The Crypt has to find a new venue. I'm really sad, as I love to play music and make people dance.

Old School Goth

On Thursday night (May 3rd 2012) I went to an old school goth night by myself. Sadly my friends are not into post-punk and traditional goth, like I am. I was really nervous going by myself, especially since I had to walk into town by myself all dressed up.

The night was held at a pub, the event was created by one of the elder goths who missed listening to good music and meeting up with old friends. I'm very young, so I didn't know many people there. At least I looked good!

I paid $6 for a pint of lemonade! It was such a rip off. I had water afterwards, because glasses of water are free

Inspiration: Siouxsie Sioux

When babybats research Goth music, Siouxsie Sioux is right next to Bauhaus and The Cure. I remember when I knew nothing about Goth music, I searched Internet forums for an idea of what I should listen to (this was when the Internet didn't have awesome information like it does now). The first Siouxsie song I listened to was Christine. My favourite song is most likely Cities In Dust, which always gets me on the dance floor 'pulling the cobwebs' with my hands.

It's no secret that I love backcombing. I used to have hair down to my butt, until I cut it shoulder length because I wanted to start backcombing. I wanted to look like Siouxsie and Robert Smith. I succeeded well, and no other Goth in Perth backcombed their hair. I was the only one. Backcombed hair became my staple, and friends who I only knew at the club wondered what I looked like with 'normal' hair. They didn't recognise me straight away in my normal day outfits with flat hair.

I've perfected my backcombing. The hairspray I use is Schwarzkopf Lacquer Taft Mega Strong Hold. I use a normal tail comb. I've regularly put up my hair, slept in it, and gone out the next night without having to restyle my hair. It's very epic.
I even made a youtube video about how to do Siouxsie hair! It's very old
It was only very recently that I shaved my hair so I could have a death-hawk (I've always wanted one)
I've also taken inspiration from Siouxsie's makeup. I pluck my eyebrows very straight, but I did this because I wanted to look like Theda Bara.
Here's an old photo of me with my hair in Siouxsie glory. I'm bending down, so my lower half looks really strange o_o;
I've also had the chance to meet Steve Severin who was the guitarist in Siouxsie and the Banshees. He came to Perth during our film festival, his show involved him playing music along to various film pieces his chose.
I got to meet him afterwards!
He's the dude with white hair in the middle. The other people are my friends.
I was a bit star struck but asked him a question. I told him that I had to record the show 'the Ascent of Money' as part of my library job. He did the music for it, and I asked if he enjoyed the show. He said that it was the type of show that sent him to sleep, and I agreed :)

The Crypt Opens

Last night was the opening of the new Goth club in Perth called The Crypt. My friend, Merissa, is the organiser of this new club. She has put so much into it, it was great seeing it all come together.

Merissa and Me spent an hour decorating the venue. Merissa bought a lot of candles at Ikea. I bought my incense, along with crushed velvet. It was very goth :P

I got to DJ early, I get to play all of my favourite post-punk and tradgoth.

Here is what I wore:
Fear my fat arms!
Shirt: Random store in Perth
Corset: Minx Corsets
Skirt: Target
Tights: Leg Avenue
Winklepicker boots: Demonia

My hair went fluro green under the blue lights.

Sisters of Mercy @ Soundwave

I thought I would never, ever see one of the big goth bands. Bauhaus, Siouxsie, Sisters of Mercy are all from the 80s, and I was only born in 89. I missed out on everything, not to mention I live in a town where no bands play (Perth is on the other side of Australia, most isolated capital city in the world)

Seeing Sisters of Mercy was a dream come true. Who cares if I had to pay over $100 for a festival where I'd only see one band. Soundwave doesn't usually have anything I'd like to see, and this year was no exception (apart from Sisters). I bought tickets for me and my friend.
Everything fell into place though. Even though Sisters of Mercy weren't headlining, their set was at 9pm. They were playing at a small stage, compared to other huge stages where bands like Slipknot and Marilyn Manson were playing.
They were also playing the same time as bands such as System of a Down and Machine Head, so there was a lack of horrible bogan dickheads (yay)

Soundwave was held on the public holiday Monday. At the University we don't get public holidays off, so I worked. I didn't mind because it was 36 degrees and the library is air conditioned.
I got home a bit early though so I could get ready in time. I walked down to the train station, and arrived at the festival around 6pm. I was lucky, there was no crowd on the train and no one waiting to get into the festival grounds.

I then walked around and found my friend Merissa who had been there most of the day. We sat down for a few hours. I happened to see Marilyn Manson on the big screen, he was terrible!! He's been given bad reviews from all over Australia, so I don't know what's been happening to him.

Soon enough it was time to make it over to the stage where Sisters were playing. We arrived extra early, so as to get a good spot.

AND WE WERE IN FRONT ROW!! Right at the barrier!

Andrew is wearing a white hoodie and smoking a cigarette, because he is totally goth.

The amount of smoke was brilliant.

I got the set list!! I sucked up to the dudes in red. Everyone wanted one last song, but they didn't come back on :(
I wished that they had played a side show, I'm certain they would have had more people if they played at the Astor Theatre instead.

It was epic though ^_^
Here's what I wore:

I wore my Specimen shirt I got from their gig in the UK last year (they were great). My skirt is from City Chic, and I'm also wearing my epic bondage belt.

My best friend, Merissa, is probably super annoyed because I was screaming my head off. Also, she couldn't buy any alcohol because she was wearing fake blood :P

Getting a Hawk

This weekend my friend came over and gave me a hawk. I've always wanted one, and I thought now might be the best time. I'm planning on backcombing it when I go out to form a death hawk.

I got tired of red hair, so I first bleached it.
I'm a natural blonde, so this is what my normal hair would look like. I haven't had blonde hair since I was in year 8.

Then I dyed it green! I really like green, it feel it suits me. Plus I don't think it'll stain as much as red did.

I have work tomorrow, so I wonder what they will think :P

Club Unknown and The Loft

I had a VERY busy weekend. My parents are currently taking a holiday in the UK, to visit family. So I have the house to myself. I'm going to invite some friends over to watch some movies, because I can't have any over while my parents are here.

On Saturday at Club Unknown there was an event for Minx Corsetry. There was a fashion show and a burlesque act, plus lots of good music. The theme was elegant vs. debauchery, I went as elegant.

Here is my makeup and EPIC GLITTER!! Glitter lips, hair and cheeks. Oh, and my nose chain that I made myself.

My best friend, Nix, lent me some eyelashes to wear. She has heaps.

Here is my outfit! I'm in the car park before walking to Club Unknown. I have no idea who's car that it.
Dress: What I wore to my year 12 ball, my friend sewed it for me and I customised it a bit.
Corset: Minx Corsets
Shoes: Demonia (you can't see them)
Lace Gloves: Supre (when lace was in fashion two years ago)
Fan: Local markets
Necklaces: Ebay

I DJed at the Loft on the Sunday after. I slept in my hair for the night before, so I'm still full of glitter. It was a Cure tribute night, so I wore my Cure shirt. I made most of my badges myself using the DIY method.

Detail of my glitter hair.

God, I really hate white shirts on me.
Shirt: Ebay UK
Vest: George at ASDA
Skirt: Millers ($3 at Op Shop)
Tights: We Love Colours
Boots: Demonias

I really had fun at The Loft. Lots of great music and dancing. It was really humid though, and we had really heavy rains afterwards.
Before my friends and I went to The Loft we visited San Churro for some yummy chocolate. It was great, and it's right across the road from The Loft.

DIY Fishnet Top

Fishnet tops are a great accessory for any Goth or Punk. In stores they can cost stupid amounts of money. Sometimes going up the $80. It's even funnier seeing stores selling overpriced fishnet tops with rips already in them.

Making your own fishnet top is really easy. I mean, even a child can do this, if I child can look more goth than you then you're not doing it right.

First: Get a pair of fishnets and scissors. You can get fishnets from most fashion stores, I got mine online. There are many varieties of fishnet, small holes medium holes large holes etc. I got medium holes.

Step 2: Cut the ends of the feet, this is for your hands to go though. Also make thumb holes. Don't worry about it fraying, fishnet doesn't unravel!

Step Three: Cut a SMALL hole for your head in the fork of the crotch. I can't stress the SMALL cut enough, don't do it too big because fishnet stretches. I made mine too big, so it doesn't stay on my shoulders properly.

Above it the hole I cut in the crotch. I did mine too big :( Seriously it only need to be a slit, you can make it bigger if your head doesn't fit.
Now your fishnet top is finished!! The waist elastic is the bottom of the shirt, and sits under your boobs (unless your a dude, because dudes don't have boobs) put your arms through the legs and head through the crotch.

So simple, so easy, only for $5!!

Darkwave @ The Bakery

I've had a cold, which accounts for my not posting 'Wednesday Wants' last Wednesday. Sorry about that.

On Friday the 29th, me and Nix went to Darkwave. It was a concert containing 8 bands, all of them indie sounding. I'm pretty sure that they were all from Perth too. I was excited to see Like Junk play, because the guitarist is the guy I work with. They were great! Another band I really liked was Heytesburg, who sounded very Trad Goth.

Me and Nix were the only Goths there. It's really horrible not going out and dressing up every weekend.

I wore my lovely MAC lipstick again. This time I outlined my lips in black eyeliner and blended it. I had to be super quick with my makeup, as the show started at 8pm! I'm also wearing my favourite necklace which has bats on it. I got it from a Halloween jewelery bin. Oh, how I love Halloween.

Being classing, standing in a carpark next to a random car. Pulling an unattractive face :P
Specimen shirt: Specimen gig, last year in the UK (they were great!)
Fishnet top: Cut up tights
Bangles: Evans
Corset: Can't remember
Skirts: Lace skirt from Chain Reaction. Skirt under that, swing skirt from Evans
Tights: We Love Colours
Boots: Demonia

On Saturday I got a new nose piercing, it's healing up well but hurts a bit.

The Amenta @ Unknown, and The Loft

July 23rd I went to Club Unknown. Me and my friends have been craving a night out, as all the Goth clubs in Perth have nearly died. We haven't been dancing in a month. The Amenta were playing, they're a metal band. I really dislike metal, so I was worried I wouldn't enjoy myself.
Basically I didn't enjoy the metal played. It was packed with metal heads, who left straight after the band. Which I think is a bit rude, I mean what else do they have to do on a Saturday night?

Here is what I wore:
My makeup. Not very good, I think I've lost my talent because I haven't done it in so long. I'm also wearing my new MAC Lipstick, in the colour Cyber. Oh, and not forgetting my lovely nose chain!

Sorry about the crappy nail polish! Here is my awesome bell bracelet. I've been trying to find one for ages, and I finally got one in a hippy/gypsy type store in a shopping centre.

Here are the photos taken in the bathroom at Club Unknown. You can tell because of the fog from the smoke machine!

Necklaces: Made by a friend.
Lace top: Op Shop (given to my by an ex-friend)
Corset: Can't remember :(
Skirts: Top layer from Target. The bottom one from a brand called Prude (a one off I think)
Boots: Demonia

After going to Club Unknown I stayed over my friends house and spent the next day with them watching How Clean Is Your House? And screaming whenever they touched dirty stuff with their hands. Seriously, it's brilliant.

Sunday night we went to The Loft, because I was DJing.
I wore my new lace top from New Look. I also used a touch of my MAC lipstick.

I'm standing in my friends bedroom, if you're wondering.

Necklaces: Ebay
Lace shirt: New Look
Singlet: Ebay
Skirt: Prude (this was under my other skirt when going to Club Unknown)
Fishnet top: I made it (going to post a how-to soon)
Boots: Demonia

The next time I get to dress up will be this Friday at Darkwave. Which basically a concert.
