Wednesday Wants

I want so many books!! That's probaly the worst thing about being a book lover, they're so expensive and I want heaps of them! Most of these will cost around $30 for me to buy, darn expensive Australian shipping. I love strange/obscene books, so sorry if you don't like the following.

Death Scenes. This is a book with photos from crime scenes.

Mutter Museum Historic Medical Photographs. Photographs from the Mutter Museum, if I can't go then I might as well buy a book about it.

The Empire of Death. I would love to visit a church made of bones. I think I'm going to visit the one in Rome when I go to Europe

I would LOVE a Toshio Saeki book, but they're really hard to find cheap. He creates traditional Japanese art, but with really strange subjects. Usually erotic and horror related.

Lipstained Icecream

Today I went shopping in Perth with Dani. We don't see each other often, but I love when we do. While I was waiting for her some girls came up and asked if they could do a video interview with me about homeless people for their class project :)
They asked if I donated to homeless organisations. I said no, because I was poor. Also that I was more likely to donate to animal organisations because animals can't fend for themselves.

Anyways, it turns out Dani was waiting for me at a shop, so I was a bit stupid :P
We got lunch first at our usual Japanese place. Then we went shopping!

What I wore:
Isolation shirt: Gifted
Skirt: Gifted
Epic Belt: Ebay
Tights: We Love Colors
Boots: Dr Martens

Haha :P

We got some ice cream at Gelare. Dani actually got eyebrow and eyeliner tattoos!! She's so crazy! :)

I had chocolate chip cookie dough. I'm wearing Revlon Just Bitten lip stain in this photo. Yes, it survived the icecream!

I bought a few things. Revlon Just Bitten lip stain, I've heard some good things about this. Although the shade I got is called "Twilight" which made me sigh and roll my eyes. I also got some new earphones. I actually enjoy over-ear headphones better, but it's summer soon and they trap the heat :(
I guess I don't like earphones because my ear canals are small, and the earphones always pop or drop out.

Picasso to Warhol Exhibition Perth

A few weeks ago on a Wednesday, I took the day off work and visited the Perth culture area. Perth has the State Library, Museum, and Art Gallery all in the one place.

I first went to the State Library where they were having a book sale. The library has it's own book shop that sells discards from the State Library. I love the library, there are so many books. It's the hub of all public libraries in Western Australia. If you're a member of any library in WA you can request a book that's at another library (this is called an inter-library loan). Anyway, enough of my librarian talk. I got a few books.

I bought these on how interesting they seemed. Vigor Mortis seems to be about death culture. Geisha is a book about Geisha's. Typhoid Mary is really crap, I read it on my lunch break at work last week.

I then visited a cafe for breakfast and people watched for a while. I'm really lucky that I work in a job that allows flexi time. We have to work most public holidays, but we get the day off in lieu later. That's how I got to have a Wednesday off. I liked going to the Art Gallery on a weekday, because there are less crowds.
After breakfast I headed into the Art Gallery to see the Picasso to Warhol exhibition.

The exhibition is a collaboration between Perth and The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York. I'm so lucky that I got to see all these wonderful works that I probably wouldn't of seen otherwise. Although I will probably visit New York in the future. The exhibition features works from fourteen different artists. I used the free audio tour that was available, but I didn't like it. It kind of jumped around and didn't flow together properly.
Photography was allowed, so I got lots of photos.

Picasso

View of the gallery

Piet Mondrian artwork. They had a series of his art from when he began up to the picture below. You can really see how he enjoyed line work in his early works.
"Trafalgar Square" by Piet Mondrian

Sculptures by Henri Matisse. He was trying to get the human head down to basic shapes, and each head is more broken down than the last.

"Propellers" by Fernand Léger

"Woman with a book" by Fernand Léger

I really enjoyed Fernand Léger's work.

"In Advance of a Broken Arm" by Marcel Duchamp. Hanging snow shovel

"The Song of Love" by Giorgio De Chirico

"The Enigma of a Day" by Giorgio De Chirico. I loved Giorgio De Chirico's work, I'm a big fan of surrealist work, and he's considered one of the influences of Surrealism.

Joan Miró

Joan Miró

Alexander Calder. I loved the way his work produced shadow. Apparently Alexander Calder didn't used welding or glue to hold his works together, he used twists and knots.

Alexander Calder

Alexander Calder

Jackson Pollock. They we showing a short film about how Jackson Pollock produced his work, it was very interesting.

Line drawing by Louise Bourgeois

"The Dove" by Romare Bearden. Collage.

"Patchwork Quilt" by Romare Bearden. Collage.

Jasper Johns

The famous Warhol soup cans. I'm not a huge fan of Warhol, I always thought that it was a bit lazy that he didn't do most of the 'producing' artwork himself. He got his assistants to screen print most of these.

They were showing Warhol screen tests. No photos were allowed, but I sneaked one. Here is Lou Reed with coke. I sat down on the carpet and was going to watch them all, but I had to leave and meet a friend

I got this print from the gallery shop for $5. It was originally $50!

I really enjoyed the exhibition. I spent around two and a half hours looking at the different works. It's such a cool thing being able to see the art that was produced by such talented people.

Same Old Madness by Ministry
I don't even enjoy Ministry, I never listened to their music. This is a really old song of theirs, and it was on a cd of mine. It's such a catchy song.

I've haven't been posting lately. I'm in a bit of a sad state. Two of my close friends have given up on me. I spend my day at work, then I got home and go to bed early because there is nothing else to do. It's really hard for me to make friends. I'm apparently too scary to approach, and I'm really shy and awkward to talk to people.

Work is really busy, we're doing annual renewals of journals. I still don't think I have to hang of it, and I don't want to bring down my team.

There are no more Goth clubs to go to on the weekend, because we can't find a venue. I haven't DJed in ages, because The Loft's venue, Geisha, has decided that Sunday night is for live music :(

I'm just trying to keep together.

Goth Tip #4

Take some time to look after your leather boots. Polishing them is easy and makes them waterproof.
I use Kiwi polish, a boot brush, an old shirt, and a pair of old pantyhose. I line up my boots and do them in turn. Here is how I do it:
  • Make sure your boots are clean. No dirt or anything on the leather.
  • Put on some good music, maybe Sisters of Mercy. This will stop boredom, and you'll start to think of how great your boots will look when dancing.
  • Use an old shirt as your polish rag. Get a bit of polish and work it over the boot. Start at the toe and work around. The polish will look matte against the leather. Do a bit of rubbing in circular motions.
  • Take a boot brush and buff off the polish.
  • Next wet your cloth a bit so that it's damp but not dripping, take a bit of polish and rub on the boots again. This is the same as 'spit shining' boots, only you don't have to spit. Well, you can if you feel like it :) Make sure that your cloth stays damp and enough polish is being used. Use a circular motion when polishing.
  • Buff the shoes again with a brush
  • Take a pair of old pantyhose. Rub the pantyhose over the boots to buff them up, this takes off any excess polish and makes the shoes shine. I don't know why, but it really works! My shoes look so nice and shiney afterwards.
  • You're DONE! Your boots should now look black and clean.
This is how I polish my boots. I might have got it all wrong, but this technique works for me. Hope that it helps you

The Professor's Monthly Homework Assignment: Purses and Bags

Another month, another homework assignment from The Dancing Maenad. This months theme is purses and bags, but sadly this is going to be a VERY short post. You see, the thing is I don't suit purses. I never have. I'm not a girly girl, and anything small and cute really doesn't suit me. It feels funny and not right to have a little tiny handbag that dangles off my wrist. I've gone my whole life with backpacks and shoulder bags. Right now, I only use two bags.
I found this bag in a small asian fashion store for $10. I had been looking for an everyday bag to fit my day planner, books, wallet, etc. I sewed the Bauhaus patch and put studs around it. I painted the spiderweb, and also a bat on the inside flap. I would LOVE to have an Oxford type bag with lots of buckles, but they're expensive.

This is my going out bag. It's small, but fits my wallet, handfan and lipstick. I use it for when I'm going to a club or out to dinner. This bag is long enough to go across my body, which I like.

The best thing about being a DJ is that I can put my bag behind the DJ booth, so I don't have to carry it around all night :)

Perth Alternative Markets 2

Last Sunday I helped my friend run the second Perth Alternative Markets. We arrived early and I help set up the tables, as my friend can't do a lot of lifting at the moment. We also took turns DJing for the five hours that the markets ran for.

There were more stalls than the last time it ran, and I think everyone had a lot of fun. I bought a few things from other stalls, including a rosary and a vintage ferret stole.

This time I made a few things to sell. I hand painted some items with spooky designs :)

Spiderweb tealight holders

Bat and spiderweb vase.

Spiderweb plate. Someone bought this! :)

Spiderweb bowl. This got sold too, the girl I sold it to loved all my stuff :)

I had some handmade dolls too. I did everything, sewing the clothes and gluing the hair.

My famous Goth Brownies that everybody bought. I seriously only had five left by the end of the day. I make them with Cadbury chocolate inside, the white squares are white chocolate and the brown is caramello

Here's what I wore!

Sisters of Mercy shirt: Ebay
Skirt: Big W
Stripe leggings: Yours Clothing
Boots: Dr. Martens

Lots of stuff being sold by some of my friends.

So many things. Not to mention that our venue is really beautiful.

I hope that I get to help my friend and run another market with her. I had lots of fun.
