Paris Day 3: Notre Dame and Goodbye Merissa!

Aaah, our last day in Paris. We woke up early and headed to Notre Dame which was very quiet in the morning. It was always really busy in the afternoon and filled with tourists and scammers.

It was lovely walking around such a historical place. There was a church service going on (mass?) so we got to hear lovely singing, which sent shivers down my spine. It's easy to lose yourself in the history while there is singing going on. One of the first Gothic novels I read was The Hunchback of Notre Dame, so Notre Dame has always had a place in my heart.

This was the last day before Merissa had to head back to the UK and go to work. We visited the Louvre, Eiffel Tower, and a few people tried to scam us! Read ahead for photos and details!

Mystery bones on display.

The side of Notre Dame.

Paris street in the morning.

The Lourve. We didn't really have the money or the patience to wait in line to get in. The place was packed, due to the Musee d'Orsay being closed. We really wanted to visit the Musee d'Orsay... Maybe next time.

A group of girls offered to take our photo :)

The Eiffel Tower, which we visited (but did not go in). Some Gypsies tried to scam us a few times, luckily I've read up on scams. I told Merissa about the gold ring trick, where is ring is 'found' on the ground and a Gypsy picks it up and tries to give it to you, then expects money in return for giving you such a valuable item. This got tried on us twice, which was really funny. I actually saw the second time, that the woman had the ring hidden in her hand before the 'found' it.
There was also a lot of groups of Gypsies trying to get people to sign their clipboards, which is a scam to try and get money. When they asked us if we knew English we'd yell back "NEIN!!"

I asked a couple that was eating a picnic if they would take our photo. "Pardon, photo?"
I took theirs in return.

We tried to find the Paris medical museum, which is located in a university. We found the museum, but the doors were closed and locked!! :(

Overall, I enjoyed spending a few days in Paris with my best friend. I wish the weather was a bit cooler, and that I knew more of the language. I got up early the next day to catch a train to Rome, Italy, which took 12 hours. So stay tuned for the next post.

Those are FABULOUS photos, especially the ones of Notre Dame!!! As I was looking at them, the intro music of "The Mystic's Dream" by Loreena McKinnett kept going through my head. What a fantastic opening for a movie THAT would make!

Can't wait to hear about your time in Italy! :-)

It's the first time I see photos of the inside of Notre Dame, it's airier and lighter than I expected.
